Week 3

Yen Ling and family walking around a certain supermarket a few days after MJ's demise...

Background Music: Beat It by Michael Jackson

Okay, they are playing the songs in memory of MJ, that is very nice!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am not a fan of MJ. However, I still feel that MJ was one of the greatest man in the music industry in our time. He had communicated to us through his music, his ideals for the world. It may seem too unrealistic to many, but we all had a part in shaping the world into how it is like today. His lyrics comes attached with meanings, reflecting his own thoughts, giving us a glimpse into the mind of the King of Pop.
Perhaps the previous generation was more affected by MJ. By using the power of language, MJ was able to write songs which are extremely meaningful and catchy.
Perhaps he was tired of living his life as the King of Pop, didnt wish for recognition everywhere he goes. The final concert was meant as to bid farewell to his fans. But it became too 'commercialised' when there are people who tried to make this farewell event into a major money-spinner.
This Is It concert would have been the best concert in 2009, but it was not meant to be. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three weeks later at the same supermarkert...
Background Music: Black or White by Michael Jackson
Hopefully with the final release of THIS IS IT, this will really be it. The King of Pop should be allowed his peace.
  1. MJ is definitely the King of Pop till the end of time! It is of no doubt that he is talented in dancing and singing and even composing songs. Few men can sing in such a high pitch like him and accurately at the same time.
    I love the lyrics of his songs especially. Just by listening to it, it encourages me to do something for the world, where a small effort counts too. Although he is very spendthrift where his spendings was more than his earnings, he contributed much to the needys at the same time.
    Needless to say, he is a role model and will be a role model to all people. His legend will live forever! Rest in peace, MJ.
  2. Before his death, most people relate him to scandals such as his nose and plastic surgeries and his molestation cases. Only when he's dead do people start to appreciate his good points.
    This is a tendency in perception: self-serving biasness.
    MJ, I'm glad you finally got your peace in heaven. God bless. Shine always.
  3. Hello! Thanks for your comments Charlene and Yujie!
    Its great that you can be encouraged by listening to his songs! The lyrics are really great, showing that alot of effort has been put into them. (:
    Yujie, I agree that the media has largely potrayed MJ in a negative light for the past.....10 years?
    But how is he really. Other than what we perceived? Its a question that not many people can answer.
  4. It is no doubt MJ is one of the greatest and most revolutionary artiste of his time.
    I agree with yujie that more often than not, the media or masses would only remember his contributions after his untimely death. However, I believe the media works in the way that it gives us what we want to know - the scandals that surrounds MJ during his later years, and of course his numerous plastic surgeries.
  5. The man who touched many with his music had his actions magnified ten times for the world to see, resulting his life to propagate controversy.
    Fabricated lies or not.
    Maybe only with his death, will it bring many to realize he’s just another being like us.
  6. MJ was definitely one of the best artistes in his time. Indeed, his lyrics have meaning unlike the kind of trash you hear nowadays in new songs. His untimely death came as a shock to me. My parents used to let me listen to MJ on Laser Disk (LD: YES the HUGE disk). Unfortunately, he lived a publicised life full of scandal. No thanks to the media, which circles mostly around such juicy gossip.
    Then again, we should remember him for his great contributions to the world and the music industry. May he rest in peace =)
  7. yes.. everyone and everywhere are playing MJ's songs..
    it's so bad. it seems like we need to lay in the coffin in order to be famous and recognise.
    before his death people see him as a psycho..
    now... everyone is missing him..
    we should really "look" more of the music side of the singer than their personal life.
  8. Hihi everybody!
    True true! His personal life is so magnified and scrutinised. It made me really wonder how can he face such stress for so long!
    Is he truely how the media potrayed him to be? Are the mysterious circumstances of his death have the part to play in his sudden 'fame' after his untimely death?
  9. Hi Gerald here. First of all. I would like to post a quote from Michael Jackson himself to show you why his use of language in his lyrics was so powerful to the extent that even weeks or months after his death, he will still reside in the hearts of MJ fans all over the world (myself included). "I know the creator will go, but his work survives. That is why to escape death I attempt to bind my soul to my work. I give my all to my work because I want it to just live and just give all that I have" - Michael Jackson
  10. Thank you Gerald for posting this meaningful quote! :)
  11. Hello!!
    You're right, it's really sad how everyone has turned his passing into any other commercial purpose. We have turned it into a media circus, forgetting that to some people, Michael Jackson is family. I especially find the sudden boost in his CD sales really ridiculous. People are rushing to buy the GREATEST SELLING CDs OF ALL TIME like it were limited edition.
  12. It is very sad to lose a talent like MJ. He is a legend and i think it is a great loss to the music industry. The fact that even his passing is being commercialized makes me think that it is a very sad ending to his already very sad life. Hopefully people will remember him for his contributions and deeds, not for his scandals that had ruined much of his reputation.
  13. Same reason as to why people appreciate antiques.
    The older the history, the more value it is worth. As more and more 'pop singers' emerge onto the market, consumers will know if they are really talented. When the novelty runs out, oldies become the 'in' thing once again
  14. Cloud's comment set me thinking.
    Alot of artistes nowadays have comestic surgery. During MJ's time, it was less common and thus it made a bigger 'bang'? Nevertheless, the big transformation from being a Black and handsome pop singer into a White(?) and scarred face dude was too great to escape media attention.
    Hence the hoo-hah that only died along with his demise.
